CS fears protest violence

(October 03, 2014)

Chief Secretary Carrie Lam urges Occupy Central protesters to leave the Mongkok protest site for their own safety.

Speaking to reporters today, Mrs Lam said a conflict broke out in the Mongkok protest site between Occupy Central protesters and those who oppose them. She urges protesters to stay calm and avoid instigating others.

Mrs Lam said she feels sad and heartbroken over the incident, and worries that demonstrations will turn violent, which will add to the Police force's workload which is already a strain on officers.

She also expressed sadness over the blockade of the Chief Executive’s Office and the Central Government Offices, saying that some protesters are ridiculous in asking to check ambulances before allowing them entry, refusing to allow the rotation of police officers, and refusal to allow the supply of food and water to police officers.

She stressed that the Police force is professional and has been exercising the greatest restraint in handling the Occupy Central protests.

She urges protesters to reflect upon their actions and stop their unreasonable acts, to allow police officers to conduct their duties with dignity.
