Spotted doves have an outlook similar to pigeons as they belong to the Coumbidae family but have a unique white spotted black collar, which looks like strings of pearls on their neck.
They are as common as tree sparrows and red-whiskered bulbuls, but with a larger size, usually about 30cm in length. Spotted doves live in Hong Kong all year round, with insects, fruit and seeds their favourite food.
Have you ever heard how spotted doves sing? Their cooing calls are soft and low-pitched.
Sometimes we can spot the homes of spotted doves. They usually have simple nests with a few twigs on small trees. Want to know more about the bird? Click here.
