In summer, you can find frangipani trees everywhere. In Hong Kong and the Mainland, the trees' flowers are used to make common herbal tea.
In Hawaii, the flowers are often used to make beautiful wreaths, called leis, to welcome tourists.
Frangipani is mainly seen in tropical and sub-tropical regions. It is a small, dark green tree that grows no higher than five metres.
During the summer flowering period, yellowish-white or red flowers hang on the tree and give off a pleasant scent.
The flower, made up of five overlapping petals, has a pinwheel appearance. If dried, the flowers are edible and have medicinal values. They are one of the main ingredients for the common Chinese herbal tea, 'Five floral tea'.
Don't pick the flowers off the trees when you spot them in parks or the countryside - they are planted for everyone to view and appreciate them.
