30 arrested for illegal work offences

The Immigration Department arrested 19 illegal workers and their 11 employers from August 30 to September 1.

 

Officers raided 28 locations, including restaurants, a money exchange, an elderly home, a logistics company, a temporary stall and a flat being decorated.

 

Five men and 14 women, aged 21 to 50, were arrested for working illegally. Three were holders of recognisance forms. Seven men and four women, aged 37 to 59, were arrested for employing them.

 

Of the three recognisance forms holders, two were arrested in a Chinese restaurant in Tsuen Wan. They were each charged with one count of taking employment while being under a removal order. They all pleaded guilty and were sentenced to five months' jail by Sha Tin Magistracy today.

 

Another three Mainland illegal workers were arrested in restaurants located in Ngau Tau Kok and Ma On Shan. They were each charged with two counts of breaching their condition of stay and one count of using a false instrument. They pleaded guilty and were jailed 10 months by Sha Tin Magistracy today.
