Secretary for Security Ambrose Lee and Commissioner of Police Tang King-shing extended condolences to Police Constable Leung Ting-lun's family after the officer died in a traffic accident in Fanling while on duty today.
Constable Leung was travelling along Fan Leng Lau Road southbound on his police motorcycle at about 7pm. At the junction of Wo Muk Road, his motorcycle collided with a public light bus which was turning right into Wo Muk Road from Fan Leng Lau Road northbound.
The officer was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital where he died at 8.31pm.
The 60-year-old public light bus driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death.
"I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of Mr Leung in the accident. The Government will give all possible assistance to Mr Leung's family," Mr Lee said.
The Force Welfare Services Group has been in touch with the family and will make every effort to help them.
Mr Leung, aged 34, joined the force in 1994. He was attached to the patrol subunit of the Enforcement & Control Division of Traffic New Territories North. He has a wife and son.
