10 arrested in drink-driving crackdown

*
Hong Kong Police

Police arrested 10 drivers for drink-driving related offences in a city-wide crackdown from July 23 to 27 in which a total of 1,776 drivers had random breath tests.

The arrested drivers failed the screening tests, and eight of them failed the follow-up evidential breath tests.

Motorists are reminded not to drive after consuming alcohol. Offenders are liable to a maximum fine of $25,000, three years' in prison, and may incur 10 driving-offence points. They will also be disqualified from driving for not less than three months on first conviction, and not less than two years on second conviction.

Drivers with a drink-driving conviction must attend a driving improvement course before they can get their driving licences back - and they may not be able to get insurance.
