Sha Tin Magistracy jailed an illegal worker holding an immigration recognisance document for 15 months today.

The 32-year-old South Asian was found moving bricks in a flat under renovation in Sham Shui Po during an anti-illegal worker operation on November 18.

He sneaked into Hong Kong in February and was hired as an odd-job worker at the flat. He pleaded guilty to taking employment while being a person having landed in Hong Kong unlawfully, who remains in Hong Kong without the Director of Immigration's authority .

Illegal immigrants or people who are the subject of a removal order or a deportation order are not allowed to work. Offenders face three years' jail and a $50,000 fine.
