    Police arrest 100 people in Sham Shui Po

    A two-day joint operation aimed at stemming organised crime in Sham Shui Po resulted in the arrest of 100 people overnight.

     

    Police officers from Kowloon West Crime Headquarters and the Sham Shui Po District teamed up with the Office of the Telecommunications Authority, the Customs & Excise Department and the Television & Entertainment Licensing Authority.

     

    Forty-seven men and 53 women were arrested, including 15 men and 48 women for breach of conditions of stay, 10 men for dealing in mobile phones, four men and 40 women for prostitution offences, eight men for gambling offences, 12 men for selling pornographic VCDs and DVDs, three men for selling pirated CD ROMs, and 10 men and 13 women for selling contraband cigarettes.

     

    Police seized 14,300 pirated CD ROMs worth about $357,000, 4,424 pornographic VCDs and DVDs worth about $91,000, and 40,720 contraband cigarettes worth about $61,000 in the operation.
