Check and chat: Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa and Secretary for Security Regina Ip visit the Lo Wu checkpoint and chat with Civil Aid Service officers at the health declaration post. |
Hong Kong will be working very closely with Mainland authorities on stepping up health checks at boundary checkpoints to prevent further spread of atypical pneumonia, Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa said today.
An infrared thermal imaging machine will be used for checking travellers' body temperature. Mr Tung said the move should not cause too much inconveniece.
In the meantime, temperature checks will be conducted on a random basis.
Mr Tung also reiterated that curbing the spread of atypical pneumonia is the most important task the Government now has, and "we will not relax on this at all".
