The Chief Executive has appointed Nicholas Brooke to head a new Harbourfront Commission to advise on harbourfront matters, aiming to deliver a world-class harbourfront for public enjoyment.
The commission is to succeed the Harbour-front Enhancement Committee and Secretary for Development Carrie Lam today welcomed the establishment of the commission.
Expressing gratitude to Prof Lee Chack-fan who chaired the Harbour-front Enhancement Committee, Mrs Lam said the committe has contributed significantly to planning and beautifying the harbourfront over the past six years.
The committee recommended the establishment of the Harbourfront Commission when it concluded its work in February this year.
The newly-formed commission comprises mostly non-official members, including 12 representatives nominated by professional institutes, civic and environmental groups and the business sector and eight individuals, drawn from sectors like architecture, planning, surveying, engineering, accountancy, tourism, real estate and district councils.
Senior officials from six departments are also members. The Secretary for Development will be the Vice-chairperson.
"I am very pleased that Mr Brooke has agreed to accept the appointment as Chairperson of the commission. Mr Brooke has made remarkable contributions to the Harbour-front Enhancement Committee in actively promoting harbourfront policy and planning development," added Mrs Lam.
