Airline fuel surcharges maintained

Civil Aviation Department

The Civil Aviation Department has allowed three airlines to maintain passenger fuel surcharges at their current level until February 28.

They are Cathay Pacific, Nepal Airlines and All Nippon Airways.

The maximum fuel-surcharge levels are $78 for short-haul flights, and $362 for long-haul flights.

It is an international practice for airlines to levy passenger fuel surcharges. Compared with the global average surcharge amounts, ones for local routes are lower.

When considering fuel-surcharge applications, the department takes into account aviation fuel prices, the airline operators' justifications, and other factors, such as other airlines' charges - regardless of whether oil prices are rising or falling.
