Chief Executive Donald Tsang says the spread of infectious disease and the risk of human infection can be minimised if all sectors maintain vigilance and adopt preventive measures.
Visiting the Centre for Health Protection today, Mr Tsang said working with the community to minimise disease spread in Hong Kong is one of the Government's top priorities.
"Infectious diseases do not respect geographical boundaries," Mr Tsang said. "To this end, the centre has maintained close ties with local and international healthcare professionals in monitoring the development of various infectious diseases.
"Through the strenuous efforts of the centre in the past months, various sectors of the community now have a better understanding of the importance of devising their own preparedness plans well ahead of a possible pandemic."

Mr Tsang today visited the centre's Surveillance & Epidemiology and Emergency Response & Information Branches; Emergency Response, Outbreak Intelligence, Emergency Hotline and Risk Communication Centres; and simulation wards.
He also inspected the work of epidemiological investigation teams in tracing infection sources and containing diseases.
He concluded his visit by meeting Department of Health staff.
"Despite their heavy responsibilities in the face of the global threat of avian influenza, I am happy to see that CHP staff spare no effort in carrying out their duties with the utmost professionalism. The public can count on their expertise to provide timely warnings and emergency arrangements should disease strike."
