Four people, aged 14 to 46, are suspected to have been poisoned by eating fish containing ciguatoxin. Three have been treated and discharged from hospital, while the other remains in stable condition.
The Centre for Health Protection advised consumers to observe prevention measures when eating large coral reef fish which can contain ciguatoxin.
The first case happened in a Tseung Kwan O family when a 46-year-old woman and a 14-year-old boy developed symptoms after eating humphead wrasse bought from a market in Hau Tak Estate on December 11.
They sought medical treatment at Tseung Kwan O Hospital on December 13 and did not require hospitalisation.
In the second case, a 32-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman ate the same fish in Yau Ma Tei on December 13. Developing symptoms, they sought treatment today and the woman was discharged from hospital while the man remained.
