Public Housing Estate tenants found burning wax during the Mid-Autumn Festival will face a $1,500 fine and be allotted five penalty points, the Housing Department says.
Under the Marking Scheme for littering, a tenancy will be terminated when 16 points or more have been recorded within two years.
The ban applies to all, including children. If minors refuse to stop melting wax, patrol staff will contact their parents and their households will be subject to the mark allotment. A fixed penalty notice of $1,500 or summons will also be issued to offenders on the spot.
The department will step up patrols from September 26 to 29, deploying Regional Patrol Teams, comprising 64 plainclothes staff and about 200 security guards.
About 750 cleaning contractors will be deployed to clean estates the morning after the Mid-Autumn Festival.
