Consumer Council chairman re-appointed
*

The Government has re-appointed Professor Andrew Chan as Consumer Council Chairman for two years from September 16, and Larry Kwok as its Vice-Chairman for two years from October 7.

 

Professor Chan is Director of the Master of Business Administration Programme at Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has served on the Consumer Council since January 1, 1997, and was first appointed Chairman on September 16, 1999.

 

During the past four years, he has spearheaded a review of the council's work, which included rationalisation of the council's organisational structure and preparing a strategy for promoting consumer protection.

 

Mr Kwok, a practicing lawyer and accountant, was appointed a member of the council on January 1, 1999, and first appointed as Vice-Chairman on October 7, 2001.

 

He has provided legal advice to the council on issues relating to trade practices and legal protection for consumers, and assisted in preparing the council's Benchmark for Code of Practices. It provides a blueprint for businesses /industry /professional associations in drawing up their respective codes of practice.
