Department of Health

The Department of Health confirmed today one more imported case of Dengue fever, bringing the total number of reports to 36. All of them have been imported.

The latest involves an 11-year-old boy who developed fever, joint pain and a rash after visiting a Southeast Asian country.

He has recovered and was discharged from Tseung Kwan O Hospital on September 1.

The department reminded people to be wary of Dengue fever, adding that their active participation in anti-mosquito efforts are essential in preventing the disease.

They are urged to:

* Put all used cans and bottles into covered dustbins;

* Change plant water at least once a week, leaving no water in saucers underneath flower pots;

* Cover tightly all water containers, wells and water storage tanks; and,

* Keep all drains free from blockage.

The following preventive measures are also advised to avoid mosquito bites:

* Wear long-sleeved shirts and trousers;

* Use insect repellent over exposed parts of the body; and,

* Use mosquito screens or nets when the room is not air-conditioned.
