Experience sharing: The Department of Health's Dr Tse Lai-yin briefs a Taiwan delegation on SARS prevention measures.

Various Government departments and non-government institutions today briefed a delegation from Taipei on Hong Kong's experience in preventing and managing SARS.

The Constitutional Affairs Bureau said the Government welcomed exchanges between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The Department of Health briefed the delegates on epidemiological findings and SARS prevention and control measures.

While visiting Princess Margaret Hospital, the delegates heard how staff handled the outbreak and were shown the fever triage area in the accident and emergency department, along with a SARS intensive care unit where works were underway to improve isolation facilities.

At the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Medicine, they were briefed on some of the important projects being conducted by the college in collaboration with prominent international scientists.

They were also told about the work of the University's Microbiology Department in tracking the agent of SARS during the outbreak and its future direction in SARS research.

The delegation later visited Team Clean's offices and were briefed on its mission, strategy and work plan on overall hygiene improvement measures.

In their visit to the Labour Department and the Home Affairs Bureau, officials introduced them to the Loan Guarantee Scheme For SARS Impacted Industries, and the work of the Advisory Committee on the Promotion of the Fighting Spirit against SARS.

The visit is sponsored by the Hong Kong-Taiwan Youth Exchange Promotion Association. The delegation will leave Thursday.
