Traditional trades: Hongkong Post issues souvenir sheet to commemorate traditonal trades of Hong Kong. |
Hongkong Post will issue on March 13 special stamps to pay tribute to skilled craftsmen of six local traditional trades.
The six trades are letter writing, bird cage making, qipao tailoring, hairdressing, dough figurine making and olive selling.
The stamps highlight the talents of a gradually disappearing breed of once popular and respected professionals.
This older generation of craftsmen came to Hong Kong from Mainland in the 1960's in pursuit of a better livelihood. They took pride in their trade, and those who excelled were highly sought after.
Today, with machinery replacing manual labour, these craftsmen still surviving and plying their trade are a wistful reminder of Hong Kong of yesterday.
The stamps are designed by Mr Michael Fung and printed in stochastic lithography by Joh. Enschede Security Printers, The Netherlands.
The stamps will be displayed and Official First Day Covers at $2 each sold at the General Post Office, as well as post offices in Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsuen Wan and Shatin from February 20.
