Tree inspection data goes online
*

The Development Bureau's Tree Management Office today outlined the location, species and condition of the 1,154 trees it has inspected on its tree website.

The bureau said the data will enhance the transparency of tree management work and promote community-wide surveillance by encouraging public participation in tree care.

For easy identification of the trees, photos of them are included and in some cases, location maps are also featured.

The trees are classified into two categories. The first covers trees needing particular care and attention, but that are still in good health and structural condition. It includes 504 trees in the Register of Old & Valuable Trees and 398 stonewall trees not in the register.

The second category comprises 252 trees inspected under the new tree risk assessment arrangement, which need continuous monitoring due to health, structural or other reasons. Mitigation measures are being conducted on these trees, such as pruning, treatment for pests and disease, and structural support.

Tree management departments have found 2,000 trees requiring detailed inspection up to July 13. Follow-up actions for 800 of them have been completed and they are not included on the tree list.

People can report problematic trees by calling the Government hotline 1823.
