February was wetter and milder than usual with a mean temperature of 17.9 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees above normal. The monthly mean relative humidity of 88% was about 10% above normal, the highest since 1959.

The Hong Kong Observatory today said the cold snap during the Lunar New Year was counter-balanced by a persistent warm and humid maritime airstream towards the end of the month, making February wetter and milder than usual.

The month was also gloomier with total bright sunshine duration of 31.8 hours, only a third of the normal figure of 93.8 hours, the lowest since 1985. Total rainfall was 113.1mm, more than double the normal figure of 52.3mm.
