Electric-car charging guides issued

Technical guidelines and a new pamphlet on the installation of charging facilities have been issued to help property managers and car-park operators prepare early for the introduction of electric vehicles.

Speaking after the third meeting of the steering committee on the promotion of electric vehicles today, Financial Secretary John Tsang said the pamphlet provides information on setting up charging facilities.

The pamphlet and the technical guidelines are available at the websites of the Environment Bureau and the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department.

"A well-developed charging network is vital to pave the way for the wider use of electric vehicles in Hong Kong," Mr Tsang said.

"Efforts by the power companies and the Government in launching standard and quick charging facilities is only a start. We need a strong collaborative front involving property developers, the property management sector and car park operators to further extend the charging network."

Both CLP Power and Hongkong Electric launched standard charging facilities last year. Thirty charging stations will be running by mid-year. CLP Power also launched the first electric vehicle quick charger in Hong Kong on February 1.

The Government has set up charging stations at nine Government premises, with another 20 stations ready by mid-year.
