Lunar eclipse set for New Year's Day
*
HK Observatory

A partial lunar eclipse will occur January 1, but due to its small magnitude, people will only see the Moon darkened with just a small part eclipsed even in good weather conditions.

The lunar eclipse will occur between 1.15am and 5.30am with the maximum eclipse at 3.23am. Only 8% of the Moon's diameter will enter the Earth's shadow.

The next lunar eclipse visible in Hong Kong will occur June 26, and will be more observable.
