October was warmer and drier than usual with a mean temperature of 26.2 degrees Celsius, which was 0.9 degrees above normal, the Hong Kong Observatory says. The total rainfall of 44.4mm was 71% below normal.

Daily minimum temperatures never fell below 23 degrees. The accumulated rainfall this year was 2,071.7mm, about 10% below normal.

Due to a dry northeast monsoon over southern China, the local weather was generally fine and dry in the first six days of the month. Brief showers occurred October 7 with fine and dry weather for the next three days.

Tropical Storm Parma entered the South China Sea October 9. Together with the northeast monsoon, the city became windy with a few rain patches October 11 to 14. With Parma's dissipation over Vietnam, local winds moderated and the weather became brighter with some haze October 15 and 16. It was sunny and dry for the next two days.

A low pressure intensified into a tropical depression October 19. Under its peripheral rain bands' influence, local weather turned cloudy with a few rain patches.

On October 20 the northeast monsoon over southern China strengthened, bringing cloudy, windy and slightly cooler weather to the city. It remained cloudy the next day, but turned fine and dry October 22 after the northeast monsoon moderated. Due to a dry continental airstream, the weather continued to be mainly fine and dry until the end of the month.
