23 beaches rated good, Turtle Cove closed

*
Environmental Protection Department

Turtle Cove Beach is closed until further notice due to the sighting of suspected red tide. The Environmental Protection Department has rated the water quality at 23 other beaches 'good' for this weekend.

Nine other beaches got a 'fair' rating, and one was rated 'poor'.

Big Wave Bay, Cheung Chau Tung Wan, Clear Water Bay First Beach and Kiu Tsui Beach have been upgraded to 'good', and Kadoorie Beach to 'fair'.

Seven beaches - Anglers', Approach, Ting Kau, Casam, Gemini, Hoi Mei Wan and Lido - are closed to swimmers year round because of poor water quality.

The public is advised not to swim at these closed beaches.

As many beaches are likely to be more polluted than their grades suggest during and after periods of heavy rain, bathers should avoid swimming at beaches for up to three days after a storm or heavy rainfall.
