45 polluters convicted in September

Forty-five pollution convictions were meted out last month, the Environmental Protection Department says.

Seventeen cases were for air pollution, 16 for waste disposal, eight for noise control and four for water pollution.

The heaviest fine was $80,000 against a company that used powered mechanical equipment, breaching conditions of a construction noise permit.
