John Tsang meets fashion designers
Stylish encounter: Financial Secretary John Tsang meets Hong Kong fashion designers Lu Lu Cheung, Hidy Ng and Henry Lau in Shanghai.

Financial Secretary John Tsang commended the creativity and talent of Hong Kong fashion designers at the Style Hong Kong fashion show in Shanghai today.

Three of Hong Kong's top designers, Lu Lu Cheung, Hidy Ng and Henry Lau, presented their fall-winter collections to a packed hall of 600 people.

"Fashion design is an important element of Hong Kong's creative industries. Situated at the crossroads where East meets West, Hong Kong is able to array the latest fashion information from around the world," Mr Tsang said.

"Brimming with creativity, Hong Kong's design talents exhibit variegated styles and flexibility. Today three of our designers express the city's style and sentiments through their magnificent work."

Creative industries are a strong driving force in the overall economic development of Hong Kong's economy, making up 5% of GDP.

"There are nearly 32,000 enterprises engaged in the creative industries with more than 176,000 employees. In March the Institut Europeen d' Administration des Affaires rated Hong Kong as the most creative economy in Asia," he said.

Mr Tsang will visit the Hong Kong Pavilion and Hong Kong's Urban Best Practices Area Exhibition at the Shanghai Expo tomorrow.
