The volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods in September rose 12.9% compared with same month last year, and that of domestic exports by 2%. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods rose 12.1%. Concurrently, the volume of imports of goods rose 10.4%.

 

Releasing the volume and price statistics of external merchandise trade for September, the Census & Statistics Department said when comparing the first nine months of 2004 and 2003, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports grew 17.3%, and that of domestic exports by 1.6%. Taken together, the volume of total exports grew 16.1%. Concurrently, imports rose 16.5% in volume.

 

Comparing the third quarter with the preceding quarter on a seasonally-adjusted basis, the volume of total exports fell 0.4%. Within this total, the volume of re-exports fell 0.5%, while domestic exports rose 0.3%. Concurrently, the volume of imports fell 2.4%.

 

Comparing September with the same month last year, the price of re-exports of goods rose 2.1%, and those of domestic exports grew 3%. Taken together, the price of total exports of goods rose 2.2%. Concurrently, the price of imports rose 4.4%.
