Tourism Board welcomes relief measures

*

The Hong Kong Tourism Board has welcomed the Government's relief measures to stem the economic impact of atypical pneumonia on the travel industry.

With a global 'comeback' campaign being launched once the virus is under control, Chairman Selina Chow said she is particularly encouraged by the $1 billion fund to promote travel, exhibitions and commerce.

Mrs Chow said a wide range of discussions have been held with the industry to consolidate ideas for the global comeback campaign.

The board is prepared to launch the new promotion once the virus spread is stopped, so travellers will visit Hong Kong.

"What we need now is a stunning and effective publicity strategy that draws the attention of global consumers and the media and rebuilds their confidence," she said.

"We also need to come up with a full package of value-added offers for our customers. This will only be possible in consultation with and support from our trade partners locally and worldwide."

It is also important to enhance Hong Kong's existing tourism products and encourage shops to provide special offers, she added.
