Attracting overseas SMEs key to local growth

*

The Government's top priority is to attract overseas small and medium enterprises to set up regional headquarters or offices in Hong Kong, says Chief Secretary for Administration Donald Tsang.

This would help transform the Pearl River Delta into an economic hinterland supporting development in the rest of the country, he added.

When asked whether overseas investors would prefer to set up in Guangdong Province, Donald Tsang said SMEs required greater economical and financial support. With its advantages, Hong Kong could be a better stepping stone for them.

It would also be difficult for SMEs to do business in the Pearl River Delta without the support of Hong Kong's huge market network and transport infrastructure, Mr Tsang added.
