The Productivity Council has appointed industrialist Andrew Leung as Chairman. He succeeds Kenneth Fang for a two-year term from January 1.

Mr Leung is experienced in the textiles and clothing field and has been an active Council member since 2000. He has an impressive community service record in industrial development, education and labour matters.

Mr Leung has been the Honorary President of the Hong Kong Woollen & Synthetic Knitting Manufacturers' Association since 1997 and Chairman of the Textile Council of Hong Kong since 2001. He is currently a Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and sits on a host of other boards.

Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology Henry Tang welcomed the appointment saying Mr Leung's public service record and strong industrial background made him most suitable for the chairmanship.

Mr Tang also commended Mr Fang for his exemplary service.
