HK wins 5 science olympiad medals

HK wins 5 prizes in Science Olympiad
Rising stars: Hong Kong International Junior Science Olympiad team members Karis Cheung, Yeung Yan-ho, Kwan Chin-wai, Lui Man-hin, Anthony Yu and Ashleigh Chu.

Hong Kong students have won two silver and three bronze medals in the fifth International Junior Science Olympiad in South Korea, the city's best achievement since joining the contest in 2006.

 

More than 250 secondary students from 45 countries and regions took part in Gyeongnam, December 7 to 16.

 

The Hong Kong delegates were made up of the best performers from local science competition the Budding Scientists Award (2007-2008). The Gifted Education Section of the Curriculum Development Institute commissioned the Chinese University's Faculty of Science to train the students from March to November.

 

King's College's Benjamin Lui and Ying Wa College's Kwan Chin-wai won silver medals, while Heep Yunn School's Ashleigh Chu, STFA Lee Shau Kee College's Yeung Yan-ho and Queen's College's Anthony Yu received bronze medals.

 

The team will be invited to join a science research programme organised by the faculty where they will conduct their own scientific research under the guidance of university academics.
