National pride: Secretary for Education Michael Suen urges teachers and students to join national education activities to learn more about the Mainland.

Secretary for Education Michael Suen has urged teachers and students to partake in national education activities to learn more about the Mainland and contribute to its development.

He made the statement today at a launch ceremony for national education activities organised by the Education Bureau to commemorate the 30th anniversary of reform and opening-up on the Mainland.

"By knowing the latest development of our country, students will be able to build up a stronger sense of national identity and broaden their horizon," Mr Suen said.

The bureau will hold activities in the coming months highlighting the Mainland's achievements since reform and the way forward for future development. They include a seminar series running until July and a project learning award scheme in which winning teams can join exchange activities on the Mainland.

There will also be a website providing teachers and students with teaching resources on China's development in the past three decades in the scientific, technological, environmental, social and cultural arenas.
