Life at sea: The Marine Department's booth at Education & Careers Expo 2008 will resemble a cruise-liner. |
People interested in marine or Police work should visit Education & Careers Expo 2008 from tomorrow. The Marine Department will erect a ship simulator and Police will display equipment officers use.
The marine booth will have display panels and videos featuring the department's functions and operations, and providing information on its six recruitment ranks - Marine Officer, Surveyor of Ships, Assistant Marine Controller, Marine Inspector II, Assistant Mechanical Inspector and Senior Artisan (Heavy Crane Operator).
The ship simulator will let visitors experience the realistic feel of a ship's bridge and its navigational equipment. Marine officers will be present to take questions.
The multi-faceted aspects of Police work will be showcased through the display of officers' equipment and recruitment information.
Officers from the Airport Security, Police Dog, Police Tactical and Emergency Units, and the Weapons Training Division and Traffic Branch will attend different sessions to brief visitors on their work and equipment. Police dogs will be at two sessions.
Recruitment officers will register applicants on site and take queries.
The free expo, jointly organised by the Labour Department and the Trade Development Council, will be held at the Convention & Exhibition Centre until February 24.
