Multi-service: Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung visits the Tuen Mun Children & Juvenile Home. |
Co-location of various correctional and residential homes not only simplifies staff structure to better utilise human resources, but also improves the quality of care and residents' supervision, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung says.
He visited the Social Welfare Department's Tuen Mun Children & Juvenile Home today.
"It is a classic example of successful re-engineering and streamlining," he said, praising staff for their dedication and professionalism in ensuring the home's smooth operation.
Set up last March the home is a modern multi-purpose residential complex serving as a place of refuge, detention, a remand and probation home, and a reformatory school for children and juveniles in legal custody. All six former correctional and residential homes came under its roof in phases from March to July.
The home has a capacity of 388 and is equipped with state-of-the-art monitoring and home management facilities like a closed-circuit television system to provide a safe and secure environment. Facilities and areas for different groups of juveniles are properly segregated.
It provides education and vocational training, individual counselling and group work programmes, community service, recreational activities, medical and health care and clinical psychological service. Guardian visits and home leave will also be arranged.
