The Catering Industry Safety Award Scheme will accept entries from August 29 to September 11.

There are six categories: Chinese restaurants; restaurants (non-Chinese); hotels with kitchen; fast-food shops serving western food; fast-food shops serving both Chinese and general categories of food; and cafes, light refreshment eating places and canteens.

All participating establishments must hold a full licence issued by the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department. They should have no record of serious or fatal accidents or suspension notices issued by the Labour Department, or had their licences suspended by other departments in the year preceding the enrolment deadline and before the announcement of the assessment results.

A Safety Performance Special Award will be introduced to catering establishments with only one outlet, which have attained good occupational safety and health performance.

There will also be a Group Safety Performance Award to recognise groups with good overall work safety and health performance. Assessment will take place between September and November.

A safety slogan competition for people over 15 will be launched to enhance occupational safety and health awareness. Entries will be accepted August 29 to September 28.
