An electronic version of the 2006/07 Profile of Kindergartens & Kindergarten/Childcare Centres is now available online at the Education & Manpower Bureau website and Committee on Home-School Co-operation website.
All kindergartens joining the Pre-primary Education Voucher Scheme are for the first time required to disclose information on their application of funds to different spending areas, in addition to other essential operational and curriculum details.
Apart from information on the number of teaching staff, professional qualifications of the principal and teachers, enrolment statistics, teacher-to-pupil ratios and tuition fees, kindergartens also disclose details of teaching and learning information and other charges they may collect.
Other new info
The profile will show whether a kindergarten is receiving a subsidy under the Kindergarten & Child Care Centre Subsidy Scheme and the amount per capita which may be reflected as part of the tuition fee in the 2007-08 school year. The voucher scheme will fully cover the amount.
The approved kindergarten school fees for the new year will be updated in July when the processing of applications for fee adjustment is concluded.
About 850 kindergartens joined the voucher scheme in the 2007-08 school year. Parents should submit applications for the Certificate of Eligibility before May 31 if they want the education voucher to be issued in time for redemption in the coming school year.
Hard copies of the profile will be available at the bureau's Regional Education Offices, Home Affairs Department's Public Enquiry Service Centres, Department of Heath's Maternal & Child Health Centres, and Social Welfare Department's Family Services Centres from April 20.
