Classroom review: Secretary for Education & Manpower Professor Arthur Li says the territory-wide system sssessment must continue to monitor schools' performance.

Secretary for Education & Manpower Professor Arthur Li says the Territory-wide System Assessment must continue to monitor schools' performance, adding the Government will review the assessment arrangements, including the assessment frequency.

Speaking on a radio talk show this morning, Professor Li said the assessment may cause pressure, however, it is a responsible way to ensure education quality.

The review will start next year, the secretary said, adding the assessment frequency for schools with good performances may be decreased.

Reiterating the Government supports small-class education, Professor Li said the Government has launched a pilot scheme to test its effectiveness. However, he had reservations about teachers unions' demand for an immediate implementation of small-class education.

He said the nine support measures for teachers announced yesterday will not incur additional costs as his bureau will re-deploy its resources to implement them.
