Consensus urged: Chief Executive Donald Tsang will consider asking the Commission on Strategic Development to study the issue of a minimum wage and standard working hours.

Chief Executive Donald Tsang says he will consider asking the Commission on Strategic Development to study the issue of a minimum wage and standard working hours if Labour Advisory Board members cannot reach a consensus in the coming months.

Speaking after meeting labour representatives today, Mr Tsang said the board has been discussing the issue since late last year.

"If a consensus can be reached within the coming months, the Government will formulate the related policy and start the legislation work. Otherwise, I will consider inviting the Commission on Strategic Development to study the issue."
