The Education & Manpower Bureau is consulting more than 400 schools again on implementation details of the Scheme on Specialised Teaching in Aided Primary Schools.

The bureau said response to the scheme has been overwhelming with applications from 98% of eligible schools. But in view of a survey of 200 schools by the Professional Teachers' Union, which claimed 90% of school heads had reservations about the scheme, it has decided to conduct a comprehensive consultation.

The bureau will contact school heads to see if they have difficulties, as their opinions may not have been fully reflected. A comprehensive consultation will enable the bureau to better understand the situation of individual schools and process the applications for the Specialised Teaching Support Grant as soon as practicable.

Schools are urged to respond by May 17.
