Processing of teaching grants suspended

Application processing for Specialised Teaching Support Grants has been suspended due to diverse views from schools.

The Education & Manpower Bureau said school councils and headmasters were consulted about the Scheme on Specialised Teaching in Aided Primary Schools before it was implemented. Submissions from over 400 schools (98% of eligible schools) were received when applications closed on May 5.

But a Professional Teachers' Union survey found that nearly 90% of school heads had reservations over the scheme. The bureau will suspend applications and will follow them up with individual schools.
