Talents interflow to grow substantially

*

With the ever increasing economic and trade links between the Mainland and Hong Kong, the interflow of talent will grow substantially, Permanent Secretary for Economic Development & Labour Matthew Cheung says.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the job fair held in Hong Kong for the first time by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Mr Cheung said the fair marks an important milestone in the interflow of talent between the two places.

Noting the flow is two-way and mutually beneficial, he said it will boost the economic integration of Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta.

The interflow of talent and human resources is one of the key drivers for the long-term development of the economic links between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

"The fair, with 3,600 jobs on offer, will provide an alternative form of employment opportunities for Hong Kong people, widen their choice and scope of career development."

Talent interflow equal

Mr Cheung said the interflow was on an equal footing.

Under the Admission Scheme for Mainland Talents & Professionals, around 3,000 qualified Mainland talents are working in Hong Kong. Their average salary is about $24,000 per month. The highest monthly salary is $160,000.

Some 2,500 Mainland students are currently admitted to local universities in Hong Kong for undergraduate or postgraduate studies.

Meanwhile, some 230,000 Hong Kong people take up employment on the Mainland, an increase of 4.3 times over the figure of 52,400 in 1992. Most of them are in professional, managerial and administrative positions. About 90% of them work in Guangdong.
