Nominees invited for education council

*

All-day schools and education organisations can now nominate candidates for the Council on Professional Conduct in Education's sixth election, the Education & Manpower Bureau says.

The council, running since April 1994, advises the Government on measures to promote professional conduct in education. It also advises the bureau in cases of disputes or alleged professional misconduct involving educators.

There will be 28 seats in three categories: 11 for the organisation-nominated category, 14 for the teacher-nominated category and three appointed by the bureau. The elected will serve a two-year term from May.

Each day school can nominate one serving regular registered teacher, including school head, to stand for election. Teachers can also run for election as independent candidates if they have the support of 60 serving teachers in the same type of school.

Eligible educational organisations have been invited to make nominations also. Other organisations intending to nominate a candidate or to vote in the election should first register.

Nominations should reach the bureau by noon on March 4. Voting for the teacher-nominated category will be held on April 21.
