The employment outlook for young people is getting brighter, the Secretary for Economic Development & Labour says.
Speaking at the opening of the new West Kowloon Heliport, Stephen Ip said more young people were finding jobs. He expects positive developments in the tourism sector will lead to more jobs. As visitor numbers rise, prospects for other sectors improve, too.
He told reporters he expects the overall jobless situation to turn around in the coming years, and that the Government would continue its training programmes aimed at helping out-of-work people, especially young people, land jobs.
Figures from the Social Welfare Department support his optimistic view. The number of jobless people getting Comprehensive Social Security Assistance fell for the second month in a row in November. There were 50,555 unemployed CSSA recipients last month, a 1% drop from the 51,071 cases in October.
