The allocation results for Primary One discretionary places for September 2004 will be released on November 17.

Of the 54,300 applicants for discretionary places this year, schools will offer a place to about 28,740.

About 14,700 (or 27.1%) are applicants with sibling(s) studying or with parent(s) working in the schools that they have applied to, and the remaining 14,040 are selected according to the points system.

Parents are advised to bring a copy of their Application Form for Primary One Admission and check the results between 9am and 5pm on the 17th or 18th at the school to which they have applied.

Registration of successful applicants should be made on the 19th or 20th during school hours.

Parents whose children have been offered a Primary One place should bring the application copy and photographs for registration purposes.

Registration will be binding

The child's registration with the school for a discretionary place will be regarded as binding on both the school and the parent.

Parents who cannot register within the specified period should notify the responsible person of the school in advance to make alternative arrangements, otherwise they will be deemed to have given up their place.

Under the Primary One Admission System, each Government or aided school may make use of about 50% of its total Primary One places as discretionary places. The remainder will be reserved for central allocation.

Central allocation slated for January

In early January, the Education & Manpower Bureau will invite parents who fail to secure a discretionary place - or who opt only for central allocation - to choose between schools for central allocation at a designated distribution/collection centre on January 17 or 18.

Primary One places will then be allocated to these children through central allocation.

The bureau reminded parents to note that once their children have been allocated a Primary One place, they cannot take part in the Primary One Admission System again.
