The senior secondary curriculum will be reformed to promote all-round development of students and cater to their different aptitudes, abilities and needs.

Responding to a question in the Legislative Council today, Secretary for Education & Manpower Professor Arthur Li said the move aims to tie in with future changes in the secondary education academic structure proposed by the Education Commission in May.

Professor Li said the new three-year structure will aid students' all-round development, broaden their learning experiences, enhance their generic skills and lay a solid foundation for life-long learning.

On suggestions to expedite the new structure's implementation, Professor Li said it is necessary to consider carefully whether supporting measures can be implemented in time.

In consultation with relevant organisations, the Government is examining details on the timeframe and resource requirements of an accelerated implementation, with a view to making a decision as early as possible.
