Primary School Profiles are now available online giving parents up-to-date information on over 700 schools year-round.
The website provides a powerful search engine for parents to look for school information through web searches.
Home-School Co-operation Committee Chairman Dr Cheung Kwok-wah said the profiles aim to promote transparency to help parents choose suitable schools for their children.
"Parents are encouraged to make use of the profiles to look into the characteristics of individual schools from various perspectives before making an appropriate choice of school to cater for their children's personality and needs," he said.
Hyperlinks, search engine provided
Those who wish to apply for a Primary One place for their children in Government or aided schools in September next year can make full use of the online profiles before submitting their applications to the Education & Manpower Bureau between September 15 and 19.
The cyber edition has an edge over the traditional printed copies as it is not constrained by the number of pages. It will also allow schools to update their profile information constantly.
In addition to basic information on individual schools, the cyber edition provides parents with hyperlinks for access to a variety of useful information such as education reform, quality assurance inspections and school websites.
Useful information at your fingertips
The cyber edition is a project commissioned to HKedCity to provide a user-oriented and cost-effective data bank of school information.
As a transitional arrangement, the committee has produced a quantity of monochromatic printed copies.
The fourth issue of the profiles covers more than 700 local primary schools, featuring such essential data as school and teacher information, school characteristics, facilities, and class structure.
To view the profiles online, please visit the committee's website http://embhsc.hkedcity.net or the direct link http://embhsc.hkedcity.net/2003/primary.
The profiles will be placed in each kindergarten and childcare centre for parents' reference. They will also be kept at District Offices, public libraries, Regional Education Offices and the committee's Parents' Centre for public reference.
