Secondary 4 allocation results to be released

*

The allocation results of the 2002-03 Junior Secondary Education Assessment will be released tomorrow.

The Education & Manpower Bureau said that among the 75,336 Secondary Three students requiring allocation this year, 75,047 - or 99.6% - have been allocated subsidised Secondary Four or Post-Secondary Three craft course places.

In the current assessment cycle, 73,019 students have been allocated subsidised S4 places, with 68,007 of them (93.1%) continuing their studies in their own schools. Another 2,028 students have been allocated PS3 craft course places.

S3 students participating in this year's allocation system should go to school to check their allocation results tomorrow.

Those who have been allocated to other schools or institutes, or training centres of the Vocational Training Council or the Construction Industry Training Authority, will be given a form which must be handed in during registration on August 13.

If a student is unable to collect their form tomorrow or turn up for registration on August 13, parents should authorise, in writing, a representative to collect the form or to register the student. The original school must endorse the authorisation letter for registration.

For registration with the allocated secondary school, a student should bring the registration form, identity card, two recent passport-sized photographs, and the one-month fee which may be required by the school.

For registration with an allocated institute or training centre for a PS3 craft course, a student should bring their registration form and ID card.

Those who fail to register on August 13 will be considered as having given up the S4 or PS3 craft course places allocated.

The bureau said a small number of S3 students were not allocated any S4 or PS3 craft course places because they indicated they would not accept places other than their choices in the central allocation.

These students will each be given an information sheet on education and training opportunities and a list of PS3 craft courses that still have vacancies.

There were still adequate PS3 craft course places and a small number of subsidised S4 places available for which these students could apply.

Those interested in applying for the craft courses can approach the Institute of Vocational Education (tel: 2897 6111), Industry Training Centres (tel: 2836 1000), training centres of CoITA (tel: 2552 1441 or 2903 0696) and of the Clothing Industry Training Authority (tel: 2743 3710).

The bureau will set up a special enquiry counter at Lui Kee Education Services Centre at 269 Queen's Road East in Wan Chai during office hours from August 12 to August 16.

Enquiries can also be made on 2832 7770.
