Construction consultation starts
*

Two consultation documents have been issued to garner feedback on the legal and operational frameworks of the Construction Industry Council and the voluntary subcontractor registration scheme respectively.

The Provisional Construction Industry Co-ordination Board said the Council will take forward the massive change programme mapped out by the Construction Industry Review Committee and spearhead reform initiatives aimed at achieving continuous quality improvement and enhanced competitiveness.

The legal framework lays down the Council's functions, general powers, composition, committee structure and reporting mechanism.

Meanwhile, the setting up of a registration scheme administered by the industry aims to build a progressive pool of subcontractors with specialised skills and strong professional ethics through systematic capability assessment and performance tracking.

The consultation documents are the outcome of careful deliberations and in-depth discussions by the Board over the past year to improve the quality of construction in Hong Kong.

Consultation will run until January 30. The documents can be seen, and feedback submitted, on the Board's website.
