| At your fingertips: GovHK offers a one-stop portal with comprehensive content and user-friendly interface. |
Secretary for Economic Development & Labour Stephen Ip says the new one-stop portal, GovHK, will replace Government Information Centre this month. A survey shows 87% of the 500 respondents found it easy to search information and services on GovHK and 79% will recommend GovHK to others.
He told lawmakers today online Government services now hosted on ESDlife will be migrated to GovHK before the contract between the Government and the ESDlife operator expires in January next year. Therefore, the over-lapping of roles among GovHK, GIC and ESDlife exist only in the interim period to ensure a healthy transition. The overlap will cease once the transition is over.
A customer-satisfaction survey conducted from September to November last year showed 87% of the 500 respondents found it easy to search GovHK for the information and services they needed and 79% will recommend GovHK to others. The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer will continue to collect customers' feedback to enrich and enhance the portal.
Up to the end of March, around $6.8 million was spent on engaging contract staff and hiring contract services in customer research, portal design, information architecture development, content writing, enhancing the search function and setting up an enquiry help desk service for portal users. Another $30 million has been budgeted for the portal's development over the next three years, including content enrichment for individual user groups and clusters.
To support the portal's operation, Office of the Government Chief Information Officer estimates that around $10 million a year will be required for ongoing customer research, content development and updating, enhanced search function and help desk services.
