Students cross boundary smoothly

February 8, 2023

Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin said today she was satisfied with the overall smooth flow of pupils entering Hong Kong and the transport arrangements on the first day of cross-boundary secondary school students resuming classes in the city.

Ms Choi visited the Shenzhen Bay Control Point and the Shun Tak Fraternal Association Yung Yau College in Tin Shui Wai this morning to learn about the boundary crossing and class resumption arrangements for students.

At the control point, she was briefed by Immigration Department staff and inspected the clearance facilitation for cross-boundary students and their use of public transport.

During the school visit, Ms Choi participated in the welcome ceremony for cross-boundary students to understand their learning and emotional needs.

She also spoke to the cross-boundary students and presented them with welcome bags.

Primary, kindergarten and special school students will return to schools in Hong Kong from February 22.

At a media session after her school visit, Ms Choi expressed confidence in the arrangements for cross-boundary students.

“We have confidence that from February 22, all the cross-boundary students can come back to Hong Kong to attend face-to-face classes.

“According to my observation at the immigration control point this morning, the arrangement was very smooth. We have confidence that the arrangement and time schedule can match with our plan.

“For the kindergarten and primary school students, different departments are working together on the arrangement of cross-boundary school buses. The arrangement so far has been very smooth.”
